Who are we?
We were the first Organic Farmers Market in the Netherlands, founded in 1987.
We are a group of 30 entrepreneurs, producers and traders from all over the Netherlands.
The Biologische Noordermarkt association strives to be a market producer as much as possible, meaning that a large portion of the vendors are selling products produced from their own farm.

What do we do?
Every Saturday from 9 am until 4 pm, rain or shine, we are at the Noordermarkt ready to sell fresh organic vegetables, fruit, bread, cheese, mushrooms, herbs, meat, fish, honey, flowers and other delicious foods.
On the other side of the square you will find the antique market and the best apple pie in Amsterdam can be tasted at the nearby Winkel cafe along with other great restaurants in the area.

Why do we do it?
Besides wanting to share the importance of organic food, we also want to share information about the production of our food.
The short line between producer and consumer brings the origin of the food closer to the person who eats it.
Consumers can ask the vendors questions about the production, origin, growing conditions, seasonal info, etc., and vice versa - the vendors can ask consumers for feedback on their products.

What is Organic?
The term organic refers to the manufacturing and production process of our food, both plant and animal. Organic products are grown without artificial chemicals and pesticides. The rules are set by the government and compliance is monitored by SKAL. Recognized by the European certification for organic agriculture and horticulture {image} logo. Previously, the EKO hallmark.
What is Demeter?
A Demeter company has a biological base, but goes further. Biodynamic operation is based on the principles of anthroposophy. Demeter is about balance, consistency and optimal health of soil, plants and animals, humans and the universe; a holistic view of food production.
Why Choose Organic
To answer this question we need to look beyond the results of a scientific investigation. We are convinced that organic is better, not only for ourselves as human beings but also for animals and the environment.
Consider answering this question for the plants, animals, environment, seed production and the experience of food.
Does it taste better? Is it healthier? Is it better for the animals? it is better for the earth? YES!! We are convinced it is. Some things are very clear. The fact that no artificial fertilizers and pesticides are used is of course an important point. Bio-agriculture does not use genetic engineering!
Animal welfare is another important point: the animals have more space, are fed biologically and are not provided with preventive medication.

Organic Certification is a certification process for producers of organic food and other organic agricultural products.

How to become a Vendor at the Noordermarkt?
The adoption of new vendors in the farmers market is done by the nomination committee.
In principle, all places are occupied.
Only a new stall can be added if one of the current entrepreneurs stops.
For the Noodermarkt we work with industry sections. This means that there is a fixed number of places in each category, so that the market remains in balance and we can maintain a wide range of products.
Example:
If a vendor stops in the Bread & Baked Goods category, then the person who had been on the waiting list the longest in this category will be offered the available stall.If this person does not want to fill in the place, we will proceed to the 2nd person on the waiting list etc.
The appointment committee can also actively look for completion of vacant places if no entrepreneurs are registered for that particular category.
To get on the waiting list, you can download and fill out the form below.
Every year we ask a small contribution of € 25 to get on the waiting list.
This payment must be paid annually in the month of January to indicate that you want to remain on the waiting list.
In February we clean up the waiting list to keep it up to date.
If forgotten you can enrol again and use the new registration date.
Once you have completed the form, returned and paid, you will be added to the waiting list.
For producers (anyone who makes a product themselves), they always need a SKAL number to be able to subscribe.
An incomplete registration form will not be considered.
