This Cheesy Puff Pastry Wrapped Asparagus is a wonderful side dish or great appetizer! This tasty recipe uses just 6 ingredients, including fresh asparagus.

One of the questions I’m asked the most is: “What’s the perfect appetizer for my get-together?” It’s not super common to host a full dinner party, but it’s SO common to have to prepare an appetizer or a side dish for a party. Easy recipes like this Puff Pastry Asparagus are so easy to throw together, and they look super elegant!

“Absolutely delicious and easy to make! Also made a hollandaise sauce on the side to dip them in!”

This recipe is a twist on your traditional, easy asparagus tart. But the asparagus spears are wrapped in beautiful puff pastry bundles.

I love using pre-made puff pastry sheets. Flaky puff pastry is just as good when you buy it at the grocery store. There is no need to make it from scratch!

You can also use crescent rolls for this recipe! If you have a ton of crescent rolls, check out this comprehensive list of crescent roll recipes.

“We made these just a few weeks ago for a side dish for a dinner with friends. They were delicious!”

This dish is equally beautiful as part of a light lunch, served with fluffy scrambled eggs, quiche or a light salad.

It’s wonderful as a side dish for Easter dinner or Mother’s Day.

Recipe Modification Options:

This recipe is versatile! Here are a few suggested modifications that are delicious:

  • Feel free to use vegan puff pastry and non-dairy cheese to make this recipe vegan.
  • Add a squeeze of lemon juice to the asparagus before wrapping.
  • Use phyllo dough or canned crescent rolls if you can’t find puff pastry.
  • Add halved cherry tomatoes before wrapping in puff pastry.
  • Sprinkle parmesan over the top of the puff pastry bundles.
  • Wrap asparagus in deli ham or prosciutto and a bit of Dijon mustard before wrapping in puff pastry.
  • Add fresh basil, thyme or balsamic glaze to the inside of the puff pastry wraps.

Cheesy Puff Pastry Wrapped Asparagus

Yield: Serves 6

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 15 minutes

Total Time: 30 minutes

This Cheesy Puff Pastry Wrapped Asparagus is a wonderful side dish or great appetizer! This tasty recipe uses just 6 ingredients, including fresh asparagus.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound asparagus (about 12 large asparagus stalks, trimmed)
  • 1 (17.3-ounce) box puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ cup shredded cheese
  • 1 egg, beaten

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Prepare a large, rimmed sheet pan with parchment paper sprayed with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. Roll out each sheet of puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut each sheet into 6 equal rectangles using a pizza cutter or a sharp knife.
  3. Brush each puff pastry rectangle with a little olive oil.
  4. Place 2 asparagus on each rectangle diagonally. Sprinkle the asparagus with salt, black pepper, garlic powder and a sprinkle of cheese.
  5. Fold the opposite ends of the puff pastry over the asparagus, pinching the corners of the pastry closed. Place on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Brush the puff pastry with the beaten egg. Sprinkle with additional salt and black pepper to taste.
  7. Bake in hot oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until the asparagus bundles are golden brown.
  8. In the last minute of baking, remove from oven and lightly brush the puff pastry dough with egg wash. Return to oven for last minute of baking.

Notes

You have a lot of options for cheese in this recipe! Gruyere cheese, goat cheese, shredded Italian cheese blend or shredded aged parmesan are wonderful options! Shredded Italian cheese is my go-to because it gives you a variety of flavors.

If you're unable to find frozen puff pastry , you can also use canned crescent rolls! They will be a bit puffier, but still delicious!
