Plot[]

The episode starts with Alice telling Harry that he has a surprise for him. Before she is about to tell him what it is, one of her customers' glasses falls on the floor, so she gets her water pitcher and picks up that customer's glass and then comes back to the kitchen. She says to Harry she'll tell him later, but Harry says to tell him now. She says she'll show him it instead of telling him and shows him that she's pregnant. She then tells him how excited she is that she and Harry will now go from high school sweethearts to having a family. She then sees that Harry is sad. She tells him that he's gonna be a great father to cheer him up, and he says that's not why he's sad. He asks her if she remembers how he had that doctor's appointment about his stomach pain. She says yes. And then he tells her that he just got back and that the doctor said that he has cancer. She asks him if he got it early and asks if it's treatable and he doesn't reply. We then shift to a scene with Harry and Alice in Dr. Weiss' room and we learn from him that the cancer has spread to his liver and lungs. Alice then says that they need to start treatment as soon as possible and Dr. Weiss agrees. Harry then asks how much it costs and Alice says she doesn't care about that and that they have to try and that they have to do this. Dr. Weiss says since they don't have health insurance, this treatment will cost around $150,000. Alice says to set up an appointment right away, but before Dr. Weiss can, Harry interrupts and asks how effective the treatment is and Dr. Weiss says that at this stage, not great and that it has a less than 30% chance of being effective. Alice says it doesn't matter and that they have to try. Harry asks Dr. Weiss if he and Alice can have a sec and Dr. Weiss says sure. Harry tells Alice that he's not gonna do it and Alice asks why and Harry because his odds of the treatment for his cancer are less than 30% and because Alice has a baby and he doesn't want to leave her with all this debt. Alice tries to encourage him to fight for this, but he still says no because they don't have a savings and because he doesn't want to leave her with all this debt and because he doesn't want her to raise a baby all by herself. Alice says she is not having a baby without him and that he made her a promise when they were both 16, which was that they'd be together forever and that he can't break it now and he says it's not like he wants to do that and that he didn't choose to cause cancer. Alice tells him that he's gonna through this treatment and that he's going to survive and they'll grow old together. Harry then says that it's his decision, not hers.

Four months later, we see Alice only getting a $1 dollar tip from a rich family. She then starts crying and thinks she'll really have to raise her baby all by herself. Her boss, Greta tries to comfort her and tells her that if she wants to leave early, she can and she disagrees because she needs the extra money. Then after accepting a dollar-short tip from a homeless guy, Greta says there's one more woman who needs food. She goes to her and asks her what she can get started for her today. The woman recognizes her and says, "Alice Stevens? From Bookside High? Ms. Johnson, your high school English teacher" and Alice says that it's been so long and that she's surprised that she remembers her. Ms. Johnson says she was one of her favorite students. She asks how she's been and she says it's been pretty tough for her lately, but that she's okay. Ms. Johnson asks if she can do anything to help her, and Alice says no. Ms. Johnson says it breaks her heart to see that she's going through a tough time. And then they talk about all the students Alice helped. She is surprised Ms. Johnson remembers all that and she's sure all the people who helped her remember her and all that she did for them. Alice says that it's too bad that kindness doesn't pay the bills and Johnson says it can and that she personally believes that the kindness that you put out into the world has a way of coming back to you and Alice says she's starting to doubt that now and Johnson says it's god's timing, not hers. She then sees that she's pregnant and asks if it's true and she says yes and then Johnson tells them she and Harry will be great parents, which makes Alice run away. Greta then comes and tells Johnson what happened to Alice's husband a few months ago.

The next day, Alice sees that the restaurant she works at, Dharla's Diner is packed and that everyone is offering her $500-30,000 tips and she asks what's going on and then Ms. Johnson comes and tells her that when Greta told her that Harry has cancer, she set up a GoFundMe online to raise money to pay for his treatment and all the people Alice helped donated money. Alice is surprised and then she takes all the tips from them and uses it to pay for Harry's cancer treatment.

Then we see Alice holding her baby in the hospital and then Harry coming into the hospital with flowers. The episode then ends with a nurse taking a picture of Alice holding her baby while Harry puts his hand on Alice's face.
